eBIM were comissioned by Parsons Brinckerhoff to carry out a full as-built survey of the UWE conference centre in Bristol. The entire survey was deliverd as a full Revit model.

3D DATA CAPTURE

Made up of two storeys and covering over 10,000 sq m, the UWE conference centre is a vast building. Formerly the Hewlett Packard offices, the building has recently been acquired by the University of Bristol. Parsons Brinckerhoff the consultant engineers carrying out the refit of the building were looking for methods to survey the very complex ceiling void. Located 4m above ground level and packed with piping and ducts conventional survey methods would have been impossible.
eBIM were commissioned to scan the entire site and deliver the project as a full Revit model.

DATA PROCESSING

The rectilinear shape of the building and level surfaces made processing of the data very straight forward. The scans were broken up into the ground floor, plant rooms and north and south gantries in the ceiling void.

Faro Scene 4.8 was used for the registration. Scene’s automatic target recognition algorithms allows the data to be processed automatically over night.
Scans were divided up in to clusters and registered individually to improve the overall registration

 

MODELLING

The laser scanner was able to pick up the very dense pipe work, services and structural steel work within the ceiling void. Using the latest feature extraction software eBIM were able to automatically trace out the major pipework. This automated modelling process makes modelling of complex MEP fast and accurate.
The final model consisted of external walls and glazing, floors, ceiling, roof detail, stairs, structural beams and trusses, columns, casework & plumbing, railings, pipes and duct work.
